As part of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP) aeration and
recirculation infrastructure installation, DWP began pumping water from the Ivanhoe
Reservoir into the Silver Lake Reservoir on August 9, 2022. The project is designed to
reduce algae blooms and preserve water quality. The pumps will continue to operate from
Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., until the Ivanhoe Reservoir is
completely drained. DWP officials anticipate that the drainage will be complete by
February 3, 2023. The installation of the recirculation system (phase 2) will begin as soon
as the Ivanhoe Reservoir is fully drained. However, project completion is now delayed
until winter 2024, due to pump failure and heavy rains.
