The recent announcement that popular fast-food restaurant Shake Shack will open a Silver Lake location confirms the ongoing gentrification of once-hip Sunset Boulevard. The restaurant, known for its burgers and shakes, will be located at 3903 West Sunset, next to The Black Cat, in the former home of California Sun. It is expected to open by the end of 2022 and will be the 16th Shake Shack in Los Angeles County, including stores in Glendale and Hollywood. While we admit to a not-so-secret passion for their shakes, it’s sobering to see Silver Lake lose its unique character.
