On January 26, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that Mount Hollywood Summit in Griffith Park – which overlooks the city, Griffith Observatory and the park – would now be named “Tom LaBonge Summit.” In his statement, Garcetti said, “…nothing was closer to (Tom’s) heart than Griffith Park… He knew practically every inch of the trails, hikes and hills. He walked the park daily. And it is only fitting that his name should forever be attached to this extraordinary landmark." The Department of Recreation and Parks reports that a plaque honoring Tom, along with new landscaping, are underway. After COVID restrictions are lifted, there will also be a public memorial. The City has also established a fund, the Tom LaBonge Memorial Fund for Griffith Park.
