Holiday Tips
Check lights for bare wires or loose bulb connections and replace any damaged
light sets.
When replacing bulbs, unplug the light string and be sure to match voltage and
wattage to the original bulb.
Connect no more than three stands of mini-light sets and a maximum of 50 bulbs
for screw-in bulbs. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for the number of LED
strands to connect.
Use no more than three light sets on one extension cord.
Use a timer.
Position extension cords along the wall so people and pets won’t trip over them, but
do not run cords under rugs.
Make sure you turn off all the lights on trees and all decoration lights when you go to
bed or leave the house.
Choose a non-drinking designated driver. If you're going out, always choose a designated driver who won't drink.
Call a taxi or rideshare service: If you've been drinking, call a taxi or rideshare
service like Uber or Lyft to get a ride home.
Stay the night: If you're visiting a friend or family member and drinking at their
home, ask to stay the night.
Consider public transportation: Public transportation is an effective way to get to
your destination without the risk of driving under the influence.
Eat and drink water: If you do plan on drinking, eat plenty of food and drink water.
Pace yourself: Avoid drinking too much.
Protect others: If someone attempts to drive after drinking, take their keys if you can
safely do so.
Report suspected drunk drivers: If you see a driver you suspect to be under the influence, pull over and call 9-1-1.
LAPD Wishes all a MERRY Christmas and a Happy New Year!
